My name is Katy and I am simultaneously boy crazy and a feminist – a difficult intersection of identity. I also tend to attract ridiculous and depressing romantic situations so I decided to turn my pain into art, dammit.
My quest to become a comic artist began most definitely with a special feature from the deluxe DVD of The Fifth Element. Most of the visual concepts were created by French comic book artists. God, it was a really fantastic special feature so I figured, why not me?
Anyhow, I was already into Mitch Clem’s comic Nothing Nice to Say, so I practiced copying characters from that and translating them into my own characters. Most of my first drawings were for a hot guy in the meat department at the grocery store which employs me, because, well, he was hot. And meat department joke were just too easy.
Now, I am here. Learning to draw. Learning to love. Learning to feminist. Or something like that.
